Impellers are manufactured from a variety of materials, including stainless steel, cast iron, bronze, aluminum, austenitic stainless steel, titanium, and others. When selecting the appropriate pump impeller material, several factors should be considered: strength, fluid compatibility, wear resistance, environmental conditions, the type of liquid being pumped, and casting and machining properties.

Cast Iron Pump Impeller


Cast iron pump impellers are typically used in small, low-cost pumps for water supply, drainage, irrigation, or industrial applications. Cast iron impellers offer good castability, machinability, and vibration damping properties.


Compared to bronze impellers or stainless steel pump impellers, gray cast iron impellers exhibit inferior resistance to corrosion, erosion, and cavitation. This is because cast iron is prone to rusting in water environments, and cast components may also experience crevice corrosion. However, cast iron impellers are robust, durable, and cost-effective, making them well-suited for handling abrasive fluids in applications such as mining, construction, and agriculture.
